Word of the Day

“And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him: For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.”
‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭12:5-6‬ ‭

There is a purpose and a reason for the chastening of the Lord. The ultimate reason is because of love. The text makes this clear, For whom the Lord loveth He chasteneth and scourgeth every son whom He receiveth. If we follow the logic of scripture, then the chastening that true believers receive from Lord is proof that they are loved. As a father and parent it is my duty to train my child. When I see that my child is straying away from the path and that they are in danger it is my responsibility and my duty to help them get back on the right track. Because I love my child I will correct them. God who is the Father of every true believer, in His wisdom will chasten us when we stray from the path. The chastening is to shape our character and to transform us. Our mindset before salvation is one that is totally opposed to God. Therefore the chastening of the Lord is needed to humble us, prune and cut off anything that is not pleasing to God. Never despise the chastening of the Lord, it is for our benefit and brings glory to God.
