Word of the Day

“Thus saith the Lord, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches: But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the Lord which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the Lord.”
‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭9:23-24

What should a person glory in? Should they glory in their knowledge? The message constantly relayed by society is that academic achievement such as the attainment of degrees, is something that a person should boast about. This is an example of a person boasting in the wisdom. There are many people who boast in their physical might or physical appearance. The problem with boasting in physical abilities is that those things are only temporary. Many times the Bible compares man to the flower or grass of the field. The reason for this comparison is that like grass, man has a short life span. We have a finite amount of time that we will spend here on God's earth, and no one knows when they will die. Therefore the physical gifts given to us by God are nothing to glory in or boast about. Lastly let us look at riches. For the rich, their money and wealth is often their security. They oftentimes place their trust in something that, just like the previous two is again only temporary. Read the book of Job and you will see how quickly Job's riches were taken away. It was only through God's grace and mercy that the wealth of Job was returned to him. So if we are not to boast or glory in our wisdom, our might, or our riches who can we boast in. The text tells us that we can only boast in the fact that we know the Lord. Besides Christ there in nothing that man should glory in. Finding glory in wisdom, might or riches all steal the glory of God. “That no flesh should glory in his presence.”1 Corinthians‬ ‭1:29‬. The Bible is clear glory only belongs to God. The temporary foundations that we find glory in are nothing when compared to the Rock the sure foundation. Christ is that Rock. If we humbly come to Christ, He will give us the wisdom we need to live our lives for Him. Christ will give us the strength we need to resist our flesh and sin nature. Lastly Christ will bestow upon on us riches that can not be stolen or taken away. “Therefore thus saith the Lord God, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste." Isaiah‬ ‭28:16‬. Trust the tried stone and the sure foundation who is Christ and you will not be ashamed.
