WORD FOR THE WISE:PROVERBS
PROVERB 25:11 A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver.
This proverb depicts the ornate beauty of wisdom, prudence, and discretion when seeking to communicate orally to another, whether it be instruction, correction, critique, or compliment. Words spoken are not done so in a vacuum without need for thoughtful consideration of several factors, which include our motive, attitude, purpose, and goal in our communication, the nature of our discourse, our tone, appropriate timing, the surrounding context, the attitude and disposition of the recipient, and the kind of relationship we have with the recipient. These factors are a few of many critical areas, we should contemplate before we attempt to communicate to another, so that through wise assessment, we can determine whether our words are such that they will be “fitly spoken” to the one we desire to hear us. See that your words that will fail to accomplish your desired end due to a lack of wisdom.
