WORD OF THE DAY

Word of the Day

“Behold, I send an Angel before thee, to keep thee in the way, and to bring thee into the place which I have prepared. Beware of him, and obey his voice, provoke him not; for he will not pardon your transgressions: for my name is in him.” Exodus 23:20-22

Now according to the rules of capitalization we are to capitalize proper nouns which consist of persons, places, things or ideas. Therefore if we follow the capitalization rule then there is a reason as to why the Angel in this text starts with a capital A. The answer is that this angel is none other than the Lord Jesus. The text says that this Angel will keep the Israelites in the way and will bring them into the place which God had prepared for them. Now the word keep in this text actually means to be persevered. “Jude, the servant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James, to them that are sanctified by God the Father, and preserved in Jesus Christ, and called:” Jude 1:1. Jude supports the claim that this Angel is Christ. Because all believer have been preserved in Christ since the foundation of the world. "Beware of him, and obey his voice, provoke him not." These instructions are given again. On the mount of transfiguration where the Father spoke from Heaven. “While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him." Matthew 17:5. The Father continually tells us to look to Christ to hear the instructions of Christ and to follow those instructions. Further evidence to prove that this Angel is Christ can be found in 1 Corinthians 10. “Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed of serpents.” 1 Corinthians‬ ‭10:9‬. Paul here is warning believers to not be like the children of Israel who were continually rebellious, murmured against God and Moses, worshiped the golden calf, and this was all done after they had all been eyewitnesses to the awesome power and sovereignty of God. “And the Lord sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people; and much people of Israel died." Numbers 21:6. "For my name is in Him." This text actually means that there is an intimate knowledge and connection between this Angel and the Father. This connection is backed up by what Jesus said in John 14:10-11 “Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works. Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works' sake." If we believe in the person and work of Jesus Christ, then there is no doubt we will be saved. Acts 16:31
