Word of the Day

“And said, I beseech thee, O Lord God of heaven, the great and terrible God, that keepeth covenant and mercy for them that love him and observe his commandments: Let thine ear now be attentive, and thine eyes open, that thou mayest hear the prayer of thy servant, which I pray before thee now, day and night, for the children of Israel thy servants, and confess the sins of the children of Israel, which we have sinned against thee: both I and my father's house have sinned. We have dealt very corruptly against thee, and have not kept the commandments, nor the statutes, nor the judgments, which thou commandedst thy servant Moses.” Nehemiah‬ ‭1:5-7‬ ‭

What does it mean to be confessional? A google search of the word comes back with this, confessional 1. (especially of speech or writing) in which a person reveals or admits to private thoughts or past incidents, especially ones that cause shame or embarrassment. In this text Nehemiah is being confessional. He is being honest about who human beings are at our cores. We are nothing more than sinners who justly deserve for the wrath of God to be poured out on us. Nehemiah understands and is acknowledging that all men are sinners. We have been given the sin nature of Adam, but also if left to our own we will inevitably commit sin. True believers are confessional. The reason for this is that when a believer is confessional it provides healing but also deepens their walk with God. The Bible makes a promise in 1 John 1:9. “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” We will have forgiveness if we humbly come to God and are honest with him and ourselves. The Bible guarantees forgiveness to true believers. Now who do we confess our sins to? We confess our sins to the one who has the power to cleanse us of these sins. “Whether is it easier to say to the sick of the palsy, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and take up thy bed, and walk? But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (he saith to the sick of the palsy,) I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy bed, and go thy way into thine house. And immediately he arose, took up the bed, and went forth before them all; insomuch that they were all amazed, and glorified God, saying, We never saw it on this fashion.”Mark‬ ‭2:9-12. Confess your sins to Christ, He is the only one who can cleanse us of our sins. There is one mediator between God and man and He is Christ Jesus 1 Timothy 2:5. When we confess our sins to Christ we are told that those sins have already been nailed to the cross. “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
Romans 5:8. Bring your sins to Christ and you too like Christian from Pilgrims' Progress will have your sin burden taken away.
