WORD OF THE DAY
Psalm 3:1-3
LORD, how are they increased that trouble me! Many are they that rise up against me. Many there be which say of my soul, There is no help for him in God. Selah. But thou, O LORD, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of my head.
True believers in Christ are pilgrims on a journey to Heaven, and while we are here on Earth we have to deal with different enemies. These enemies are our fleshly sin nature that battles against the spirit, The World which opposes Christ and everything that He stands for, and finally Satan who is the prince of this world. There are times when on this journey things may seem as if there is no hope, but God is in total control. He is our shield and our protector; he watches over us and brings trials into our life to transform us. Here in this text David reflects on the fact that Christ is his shield. When Christ died on the cross he suffered under the wrath of God the Father in the place of wretched sinners. He personally took on the sin debt of those who would believe in Him and by faith He shield them from the wrath. For this act Christ deserves all glory, and we as believers boast in the fact that we know a savior. We know Christ. Isaiah 45:22 Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God and there is none else. Looking to Christ is the only way we are saved.
